The Flowering Plum

Image
Early Sunday morning, as the sun was peeking though an overcast sky my plum tree beckoned. Sharing a short post before we head up for a visit to the  "rainy city," soon to be "home." Thank you for being here.  Be back soon,  Becca  **linking up with  The Creative Exchange **

Fiber Frenzy!

I've learned the basics of tatting using a  Shuttle I only have the plastic shuttles, but click on that link above and see some images of some beautiful shuttles! Seeing all those lovely shuttles makes me want to continue to practice tatting that way. Lately though, I've been reading that "needle tatting" is easier than "shuttle tatting" so I ordered some needles to see for myself, and yes...I think it is somewhat easier. I don't get nearly as many knots as I do when using a shuttle and having to "flip" the stitch. This is the "Josephine Chain"   a pretty easy pattern to learn and I love how it looks with hemp fibers.  I think it would make a pretty choker don't you?  This isn't tatting of course, I was just wanting to use some of the left over hemp, so I crocheted this necklace using beads. (you can use beads in tatting too, I just haven't gotten that far yet) Here

Sand and Sea Girl

Hi everyone!   I hope your weekend is off to a great start. I'm still trying to pack up things for our move,  but every time I go into my art room I get distracted and want to play!  I had so much fun creating my last mixed media collage  that I couldn't wait to try another one. This was my original sketch. I think she would have been cute with short hair, but I struggle with "painting" hair for some reason. I think that's why I resort to collage. Here's the thing though... I'm still learning about paints, graphite, and their reaction to gesso or matte medium. Once I started applying her tissue paper hair with th

How To Pack A Box Of Inspiration

Image
It's probably another 3 months or so away from our big move.  Still,  I've been going through things in my craft room, trying to organize and pack.  I guess the Girl Scout motto, "Always Be Prepared" stuck with me through the years. Moving is stressful enough without the thought of waiting for a moving company to throw everything into a box last minute. My little space is filled with things that I love,  displayed in a unique fashion and out in the open for  inspiration.  Unfortunately, those displays of inspiration and eye candy wasn't exactly "move ready" so I decided since I have the luxury of "time" I would start putting things neatly into plastic bins and cardboard moving boxes.  One of the things I came across was this box of vintage embroidery threads I found at an antique store a couple years back.  I thought it would be a good time for a packing break and a mini photo shoot to share some
